Which sizes are available for the Kegema gantry milling machine?
The Kegema FKS 2513 is a CNC gantry milling machine with a standard work area of 1300 × 2500 mm and 200 mm of travel in the Z axis. The model designation follows the work area. For larger sheet formats or for nesting several parts in one setup, the manufacturer lists three larger work areas; custom sizes are available on request.
| Standard version FKS 2513 | 1300 × 2500 × 200 mm |
|---|---|
| Optional work area 1 | 1500 × 3000 mm |
| Optional work area 2 | 2000 × 3000 mm |
| Optional work area 3 | 2000 × 4000 mm |
| Custom sizes | available on request |
| Gross weight (FKS 2513) | approx. 1,250 kg |
The work area is the first decision in any configuration, because it determines floor space, delivery logistics and how material moves through the shop. The gross weight of roughly 1,250 kg stated in the data sheet refers to the FKS 2513. For the larger versions, ask for weight and installation dimensions before ordering.
How accurate is a gantry milling machine of this class?
For the Kegema FKS 2513, the manufacturer states a positioning accuracy of ± 0.07 to 0.1 mm and a machining accuracy of ± 0.08 mm. That covers contour cutting, grooving and nested panel work. Based on these figures, the machine is not intended for fits in the range of a few hundredths of a millimetre.
These figures follow from how the machine is built:
- X and Y drive: helical rack and pinion. The angled tooth engagement spreads the load across more tooth flank than a straight-cut rack and therefore runs more smoothly.
- Gantry drive: four servo motors in total, two of them on the Y axis, so the gantry is driven on both sides rather than pushed from one.
- Z axis: Taiwanese TBI ball screw instead of a rack, since infeed in Z directly determines cutting depth.
- Guideways: 20 mm linear guides (Taiwan) on all axes.
- Reduction: Japanese Shimpo precision gearboxes on the servo axes.
- Frame: reinforced steel frame construction, with an automatic central lubrication system supplying the guideways to limit wear over the machine's service life.
The servo motors are Leadshine RAL AC units rated at 750 W each, distributed one on X, two on Y and one on Z.
Which components are used in the FKS 2513?
The Kegema FKS 2513 is built from standard components that the data sheet names individually. That matters in daily operation: the spindle, drives, inverter and controller can be identified by name when a spare part or a diagnosis is needed.
| Spindle | 6.0 kW HQD, air-cooled, 6,000–18,000 rpm |
|---|---|
| Servo motors | Leadshine RAL AC, 750 W, 4 units |
| Gearboxes | Japanese Shimpo precision gearboxes |
| Ball screw, Z axis | Taiwan TBI |
| Linear guides | 20 mm, Taiwan |
| Controller | DSP A11, standalone, USB |
| Frequency inverter | Fuling, 7.5 kW |
| Vacuum pump | 7.5 kW, two-stage |
| Dust extraction | 3 kW, twin-bag system |
| Lubrication | automatic central lubrication system |
| Work table | combined T-slot and vacuum table |
| Machine bed | reinforced steel frame construction |
The spindle is air-cooled, so no water circuit with pump, tank and antifreeze is required. The table combines two hold-down methods: full sheets are held by the two-stage 7.5 kW vacuum pump, while narrow or small parts can additionally be clamped mechanically in the T-slots.
What power supply and floor space does a gantry milling machine need?
The Kegema FKS 2513 runs on a 380 V three-phase supply. The manufacturer states a total connected load of 19.5 kW, split between the spindle, the vacuum pump, the dust extraction unit and the four servo motors, with the vacuum pump and spindle accounting for the largest share. Fusing should therefore be agreed with an electrician before delivery.
| Voltage | 380 V, 3-phase |
|---|---|
| Total connected load | 19.5 kW |
| Spindle | 6.0 kW |
| Vacuum pump | 7.5 kW |
| Dust extraction | 3 kW |
| Servo motors | 4 × 750 W |
| Frequency inverter | 7.5 kW (Fuling) |
| Gross weight | approx. 1,250 kg |
| Operating environment | -20 °C to +45 °C, 5–75 % RH |
At around 1,250 kg gross, this is not a machine that gets moved around during production. The permitted operating range of -20 °C to +45 °C at 5 to 75 % relative humidity also covers unheated workshops. The twin-bag extraction unit needs its own space next to the machine, both for installation and for changing bags. Installation dimensions and the operating and maintenance clearances are not part of the data sheet and should be requested before delivery is scheduled.
Which tools and feed rates does the FKS 2513 support?
The spindle of the Kegema FKS 2513 holds tools in an ER32 collet, with a maximum tool diameter of 20 mm. The data sheet lists diameters of 3.175 / 4 / 6 / 12.7 / 20 mm. Since 3.175 mm and 12.7 mm correspond to 1/8" and 1/2", both metric and imperial cutters can be used. Spindle speed is adjustable from 6,000 to 18,000 rpm.
| Tool holder | ER32 collet |
|---|---|
| Max. tool diameter | 20 mm |
| Tool diameters per data sheet | 3.175 / 4 / 6 / 12.7 / 20 mm |
| Speed range | 6,000–18,000 rpm |
| Working feed rate | 0–20 m/min |
| Rapid traverse | 30 m/min |
| Tool sensor | manual |
| Controller | DSP A11, standalone, USB |
| Control language | G-code |
The DSP A11 controller runs standalone. Programs are transferred by USB, so no permanently connected PC is required. It processes G-code, which means common CAM systems can be used with a matching post processor. According to the data sheet the tool sensor is operated manually, so measuring tool length is an operator step at every tool change.
What is this machine suited for, and what not?
The Kegema FKS 2513 is designed around flat workpieces: 200 mm of Z travel, hold-down by vacuum and T-slots, working feed up to 20 m/min and 30 m/min rapid traverse. That suits sheet material, contour cutting and nesting. For some jobs, however, the published specifications show it is not the right machine.
- Suited to: panel cutting and contour milling up to 1300 × 2500 mm, optionally up to 2000 × 4000 mm, plus 2D and 2.5D work with a repeating set of tools.
- Workpiece height limit: Z travel is 200 mm. After tool length and clamping, less usable height remains, so tall three-dimensional parts are outside its range.
- Tooling limit: ER32 with a maximum tool diameter of 20 mm. Larger cutter heads cannot be mounted.
- Tool change limit: the tool sensor is manual, so programs with many tool changes add operator time.
- Coolant limit: the data sheet lists no coolant system. Any work that requires flood or mist cooling has to be clarified beforehand.
- Accuracy limit: ± 0.08 mm machining accuracy. Tighter tolerances call for a different class of machine.
One point on hold-down: the smaller the individual part, the less surface area the vacuum has to act on. In that case the T-slots in the table take over the mechanical clamping.
